Badan Ranahan memiliki sejumlah direktorat.

English News : Russia floats out first of new class of frigate

0

Russia's first Project 22350 frigate was floated out at the Severnaya Verf shipyard in St. Petersburg on Friday.

The Admiral Gorshkov frigate will be able to execute long-range strike, anti-submarine and escort missions in remote areas.

However, it will be some time yet before it enters service because the ship is only 40% complete, officials said.

The next Gorshkov-class frigate, the Admiral Kasatonov, is under construction and expected to be launched in 2012.

The Russian Navy will receive up to 10 new ocean-going frigates in the next 10 years, a Defense Ministry source said.

The Russian Navy needs between 20 and 30 such frigates, which will be the 21st century's main ocean-going surface ship.

The Admiral Gorshkov has a displacement of 4,500 tons, a speed of 29 knots, a range of 4000 nm at 14 knots, and endurance of 15 days.

It has a crew of 210 and an assortment of weaponry, including a 130 mm A-192 gun, a Kashtan close-in weapon system (CIWS), eight Oniks 3M55 (SS-N-26) anti-ship missiles, the Shtil I (SA-N-12 "Grizzly") medium range antiaircraft missile complex, four 533mm torpedo tubes, RPK-9 Medvedka-VE (SS-N-29) anti-submarine rockets, and 24 Uragan SAM missiles.

English News : Hyundai to build new South Korean frigates

SEOUL, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- The South Korean government has chosen Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. to construct the South Korean navy's next generation frigates.

The Defense Acquisition Program Administration chose after reviewing competing bids from three companies, Yonhap news agency reported Tuesday.

DAPA announced that the government would present the formal contract with Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. by the end of the year, with the first vessel to be delivered to the South Korean navy in 2014.

DAPA said that the upgraded frigate class will incorporate advanced anti-ship, anti-air and anti-submarine weaponry, electronic and software capabilities far exceeding those compared to ships currently in the country's maritime forces.

The new warships are designed to replace South Korea's indigenous and aging fleet of Ulsan-class frigates and Pohang-class patrol combat corvettes. The South Korean navy Pohang-class Cheonan corvette was sunk March 26, allegedly by a torpedo fired by a North Korean vessel. That was one of the reasons South Korean government decided to build more modern warships to guard against future aggression.

According to the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff and U.S. Forces Korea, Monday South Korea and the U.S. Navy began a joint anti-submarine warfare exercise in the waters west of the Korean Peninsula.

Indian Navy commissions first indigenous 'stealth' frigate

0

The Indian Navy on Thursday commissioned the INS Shivalik, the first of three new indigenous stealth frigates, the Defense Ministry said.

The 6,200-ton, 142.5 by 16.9 meter frigate has low radar visibility. Special aerodynamics, as well as the equipment and materials used in building the warship makes it very difficult to monitor its movements.

It has a range of 5,000 nautical miles at cruising speed of 18 knots and a crew of 257, including 35 officers.

Speaking at an official ceremony, Defense Minister A K Antony said there had been a distinct shift in country's policy from a "Buyer's Navy to a Builder's Navy."

"We must continue with our efforts to transform and modernize our shipyards, so that they can not only meet the domestic demands but also achieve latest international standards in quality construction," he said.

He said India's long coastline and ever expanding exclusive economic zone made it imperative to defend land and sea lanes.

The INS Shivalik is the first in the series, the other two being the Satpura and the Sahyadiri. The Navy has said Shivalik-class frigates will be its mainstay warships in the first half of the 21st century.

Apart from India, only the U.S., Russia, the U.K., France, Sweden, Japan, Italy and China have the capability to build stealth warships of this size and class.

Russian warship to make port call in Oman

0

A Russian frigate will start on Thursday a two-day visit to the port of Salalah in Oman to replenish water and food supplies for its current anti-piracy mission off the Somali coast, a Navy source said.

The Neustrashimy frigate from Russia's Baltic Fleet has escorted about 20 commercial vessels since its arrival in the Gulf of Aden in January and thwarted at least one attack by Somali pirates.

"On March 20, the frigate will leave the port of Salalah and continue escorting commercial vessels in the Gulf of Aden until it is replaced by a task force from Russia's Pacific Fleet led by Admiral Shaposhnikov destroyer," the source said.

It is Neustrashimy's second anti-piracy mission in the area. The frigate was the first Russian warship to join international anti-piracy efforts off Somalia in October 2008.

The frigate's armament includes SS-N-25 Switchblade anti-ship missiles, SA-N-9 Gauntlet SAM, a 100-mm gun, torpedoes and depth charges. The frigate also carries a Ka-27 ASW helicopter.

The Russian Navy has maintained a constant presence off the Horn of Africa, with each fleet dispatching warships on a rotational basis.

Russia floats out second Gepard class frigate for Vietnam

0

Shipbuilders in Russia's republic of Tatarstan floated out a second frigate for the Vietnamese Navy on Tuesday, a spokesman for the Zelenodolsk shipyard said.

Russia and Vietnam signed a contract on the construction of two Gepard 3.9 class frigates for the Vietnamese Navy in 2006. The first frigate was floated out in December 2009.

"A second Gepard 3.9 class frigate for the Vietnamese Navy was floated out on Tuesday. The first frigate will be delivered to Vietnam in October and the second by the end of this year," the spokesman said.

Both ships will undergo sea trials in the Baltic Sea.

Project 1166.1 Gepard 3.9 class frigate is designed to engage surface ships, submarines and air targets, both independently and as part of a task force, as well as to perform escort and patrol tasks.

The ship has a displacement of 2,000 tons, a length of 102 meters, a maximum speed of 23 knots, a crew of 103 personnel and a cruising range of 5,000 miles.

The frigate is armed with an Uran-E anti-ship missile system, a 76.2-mm gun mount AK-176M, a Palma air defense artillery system, two 30-mm gun mounts AK-630M and 533-mm torpedo tubes. It can carry a Ka-28 or a Ka-31 Helix naval helicopter.

Together with the country's recently ordered six Kilo class submarines and Su-30MK2 naval fighter-bombers, the Gepard deal is seen as part of Vietnam's current navy modernization drive.

Upgraded Frigates Finally Join Fleet

THE navy has accepted into service four Adelaide Class frigates, about five years behind schedule, ending a troubled $1.5 billion upgrade contract.

Speaking at the opening of the Pacific 2010 Maritime Congress exposition in Sydney yesterday, Defence Minister John Faulkner said valuable lessons had been learned during the upgrade, but the navy was now equipped with a lethal new capability.

The delays resulted from a "significant underestimation" of the complexity of the upgrade at the start of the project in the late 1990s, Senator Faulkner said.

The four US-designed Oliver Hazard Perry Class frigates -- HMAS Sydney, Melbourne, Darwin and Newcastle -- were acquired in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

The Defence Minister conceded that, soon after being elected, the government had doubts about the viability of the upgrade contract because it was so far behind schedule. The frigate contract was put on the government's "projects of concern" blacklist.

"Changes in project scope, from six to four ships, and decisions in 2006 regarding the prime contract, resulted in an agreed new program schedule which I am pleased to publicly acknowledge, has now been achieved," Senator Faulkner said.

"The upgraded FFG is a formidable capability.

"We have learnt valuable lessons from the FFG upgrade experience and more importantly we are delivering a significantly improved capability with substantial opportunities for further improvement."

The frigate upgrade program was the most sophisticated and complex naval systems integration project undertaken in Australia, said prime contractor Thales (Australia) managing director Chris Jenkins..

The warship makeover involved upgrades to the combat and fire control systems, air search radar, improved air defence and sonar and upgraded missile systems.

Other improvements include installation of a modernised 20mm Phalanx "last ditch" close defence system and new lightweight torpedoes.

It's expected that, following the upgrade, the warships will now be capable of deployment on operational duties to the Persian Gulf.
